Recommended reading order

The various sections in this blog are interconnected to a large degree. It has been my experience that learning is not unidirectional. It is a rather chaotic process which involves a constant back and forth, visiting and re-visiting and the continual questioning of one’s understanding and occasionally existence. Nevertheless, this section presents a recommended order of reading of the blogposts in this blog.

Rudiments

This section covers the basics required to study biochemistry. It explores the connections between biochemistry, physical chemistry and organic chemistry.

The Lexicon

The lexicon attempts to condense a major portion of biochemistry into a few basic reactions. Learning (and internalizing) this exhaustive list of reactions will greatly simplify the study of the actual biochemical pathways. The goal of the lexicon is to familiarize ourselves with the reoccurring patterns and hopefully understand and predict rather than simply remember (and eventually forget) the reactions of the metabolic pathways.

Metabolism

The catabolic and anabolic reactions that constitute life are explained in this section. So far, only carbohydrate metabolism is written about in this section.
